This window manager takes the minimalist approach; it does not provide any configurability, icons, a virtual desktop, nor buttons panels. It simply adds a frame to each window and attempts to look stylish, spurning the numerous features and attendant baggage offered by other window managers. It is therefore simple, fast, and small.
The default lack of configuration results in a screenshot like this (122k).
wm2's minimalist approach makes it an interesting choice for running in conjunction with the GNOME desktop, as shown in this screenshot (94k).
The window manager is available from the wm2 page.
As an extension to wm2, the author has created wmx which offers three extra features over wm2:
- multiple desktops numbered like TV channels
- a root menu of applications based on the contents of a directory
- feedback from menu of current clients, to indicate their location
For more info, see the wmx page.
