Olwm implements parts of the OPEN LOOK graphical user interface. It was once the standard window manager for Sun's OpenWindows, before Sun adopted Motif, CDE, and then more recently, GNOME, instead.
See this full sized (1152x900) screenshot (26k). This was obtained using the default configuration. This should be called after running openwin, and not startx. Also the environment variable OPENWINHOME should be set appropriately - usually to /usr/openwin.

Olvwm is an ICCCM compliant window manager for use with the XView toolkit. Olvwm differs from olwm in that olvwm manages a virtual desktop which is larger than the actual screen. However, olvwm is equivalent in all other respects to, and supports all the features of olwm. It also supports many extra features, apart from the virtual desktop, including use of XPM pixmaps and GIF images as icons and menu images.
Olvwm configurations:
- From matt@belgarath.org, added in June 1996: A menu specification file (this should be renamed to .openwin-menu in your root directory), some resources and a screenshot (18k).
- From coyote@info.polymtl.ca, added in January 1997: This screenshot (160k) shows olvwm running under Linux. This package (40k) contains the icons, resources, and menu definition files used by the setup.
- From yetter@dnvr.uswest.net, added in February 1998: This 1280x1024 screenshot (321K) is also from Linux. It uses this .Xdefaults file, and this .openwin-menu file.
XVfilemgr, displayed in the above screenshot, is a project by Christian Koch and Vincent S. Cojot. See the XVfilemgr page for more details.
There are more screenshots and other information at Flame's Olvwm page.
Olvwm version 4 is available for ftp from ftp.x.org:/R5contrib/olvwm4.tar.Z
A newer version of Olvwm is available from the Official Olvwm page.
